i got you, babe
taraheke collective
i got you, babe is the first experiment of our Taraheke | Bushlawyer collective.
This fast-paced little collection contains a long conversation between the five of us about the power plays of mainstream publishing, particularly in relation to "indigenous", "environmental" and "climate" issues, as if these are divorced from publishing itself or from colonisation, racism, imperialism and capitalism.
As well as the conversation in its entirety, i got you babe includes poems, essays, linocuts and other spontaneous contributions by each of us in our collective: Anahera Maire Gildea, Anne-Marie Te Whiu, Cassandra Darragh Barnett, Nadine Hura and Michaela Keeble.
We put i got you, babe together quickly, and with it we trialled a low-fi, low-waste printing process at Rebel Press, based in Wellington's Trades Hall. We learned how to print, score, guillotine, glue and guillotine anew our own book with our own hands.
This zine-slash-anthology is part of our process of undoing the appropriative and exploitative nature of commerical publishing.
